Feeling restless and unfit in lockdown? We have just the thing for you!

Wythenshawe Walking Personal Best

Many of us are stuck indoors at the moment, but that does not mean we have to be completely inactive. During lockdown you can stay active with the Wythenshawe Walking Personal Best Programme.  Why not challenge yourself by counting your steps (if you have a smartphone or pedometer) or timing the amount of time you walk, and trying to do more each week?  Whilst we need to stay at home, Government guidance currently permits one set of exercise a day outside the home, this could be walking, running or cycling near to your home, making the most of open spaces. The Personal Best Programme is designed to meet this guidance.

The Personal Best Challenge is for anyone and everyone regardless of ability or fitness level. We want you to have fun and challenge yourself while staying true to your own ability. All you have to do is improve on last week’s you!

It’s easy, all you have to do is follow these simple steps:

    • Set your starting point

      If you know your average weekly steps, set yourself a target to increase them during lockdown. If you don’t know your steps, use this week to measure your steps or walking time. If you are a manual wheelchair user track your distance or time yourself.  If you are frontline staff you can use your steps at work and combine these with steps at home. Every week try and get more steps, time or distance than last week!

    • Track your steps

      Once you know your steps and have set a target, track your steps or time how long you walk each week so you can see how you improve

    • Let us know

      Let us know by commenting on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram post every Saturday telling us how many steps you have done during the week. If you don’t want to post publicly you can DM us instead

    • Receive your medal!

      We will track your progress and there will be medals and certificates for everyone who has beaten their personal best by the end of lockdown!

    The personal best programme will start on the 18th of April and check in dates will be every Saturday until the end of lockdown. If a family member or friend doesn’t have social media, don’t worry you can share their progress for them!
